These microscopic roundworms are easily distinguished by their characteristic, heavily annulated cuticles, which provide structural protection while they navigate through soil particles in search of host roots.

The host range of Crossonema menzeli typically encompasses a variety of woody plants, shrubs, and specific agricultural crops. They are classified as ectoparasites, meaning they feed on the exterior cells of the plant root system, often congregating in high numbers around the root hairs where nutrient absorption is most active.
