The common house mosquito, Culex pipiens, is a member of the Diptera order and the Culicidae family. While not a pest of vegetation, it is recognized as a significant nuisance and biological vector in agricultural environments, particularly near livestock and irrigation systems where it finds optimal breeding conditions.
The life cycle of this species includes four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The development process is entirely dependent on stagnant water, such as cattle troughs, irrigation barrels, or poorly drained areas on the farm. Larvae feed on microscopic organic matter, and their ability to thrive in small volumes of water ensures a rapid expansion of the population during the warm season.

Constant biting causes stress, skin irritation, and exhaustion in animals, which significantly decreases milk yield in dairy cattle and slows down weight gain in meat animals.
