The pest primarily targets oil palm foliage, though it may occasionally be found on related tropical plant species. The larvae feed on the leaf tissues, initially creating small patches of damage that escalate into extensive skeletonization as the caterpillars mature and their nutritional requirements increase.

The lifecycle consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adult moth deposits eggs on the underside of leaves. The larvae, typical of "slug moths," are flattened and lack distinct prolegs; their bodies are often covered in stinging hairs that serve as a chemical defense mechanism, making them hazardous to handle without protective equipment.
