Depressotetrix belongs to the order Orthoptera and the family Tetrigidae. These insects are members of the groundhopper group, characterized by a well-developed pronotum that covers a large portion of the abdomen and wings. Unlike many other grasshoppers, this genus typically leads a secretive life and often does not cause massive damage; however, under favorable conditions, they can become a significant factor in yield reduction.

This pest primarily damages various types of herbaceous plants, wild grasses, and young seedlings of fodder crops in pastures and meadows. In some cases, with high population density, these insects may move to vegetable crops and grain fields, feeding on tender parts of leaves and stems, which leads to stunted growth and reduced vigor of the affected plants.

The developmental biology of Depressotetrix involves incomplete metamorphosis. The insect's life cycle is closely linked to soil moisture levels and the presence of plant debris, which serve as the primary food source for nymphs and adults. Typically, older nymphs or adults hibernate in the upper soil layers or beneath plant litter, allowing them to successfully survive harsh winter conditions.

The damage character involves marginal defoliation and the appearance of small holes on the leaves. The primary threat lies in weakening young plants, making them more susceptible to fungal infections and drought. Additionally, a high presence of these pests reduces the nutritional value of grazing lands, negatively impacting livestock productivity.
