The common groundhopper (Tetrix bipunctata) belongs to the order Orthoptera and the family Tetrigidae. This small insect is often overlooked in field inspections due to its cryptic coloration and habit of hiding among soil debris, making it a subtle yet persistent agricultural pest.

It primarily feeds on tender shoots of various crops, including cereals, vegetable seedlings, and forage plants. By gnawing on the leaves and stems of young plants, the groundhopper disrupts growth processes, which can cause significant stress to young seedlings in early spring.
