Host plants: The primary host is the Schefflera species. The pest prefers to colonize the undersides of leaves, specifically targeting younger foliage where nutrients are more accessible for the developing larvae.
Biology and life cycle: The life cycle comprises the egg, several larval instars (nymphs), and the adult stage. Adults are tiny, winged insects that lay eggs on the abaxial side of leaves. Nymphs, after an initial mobile phase, become sessile, feeding on plant sap while producing a waxy secretion that acts as a protective shield.
Nature of damage and pest status: The feeding activity results in the excretion of honeydew, which facilitates the growth of sooty mold.
