Dialeurolobus is a genus of insects belonging to the whitefly family (Aleyrodidae) within the order Hemiptera. These minute, sap-sucking pests pose a significant threat to a wide range of agricultural and ornamental plants, particularly in warmer climates. Taxonomically, they are closely related to other harmful whitefly species, which dictates similarities in their behavior and the strategies used to manage their populations in agricultural settings.

The primary hosts for species of this genus include various woody plants and shrubs, such as citrus, oil crops, and specific forest tree species. The pest typically colonizes the undersides of leaves, where the microclimate is ideal for feeding and provides protection from direct sunlight and harsh environmental conditions, making early detection challenging.

The biology of Dialeurolobus involves a complex lifecycle with incomplete metamorphosis. Females deposit eggs directly onto the leaf surface, from which mobile first-instar larvae, known as "crawlers," emerge. Once they select a feeding site, the larvae become sedentary and begin to extract cell sap, which severely impacts the plant's metabolic health and vigor.

Damage symptoms manifest as chlorosis (yellowing), leaf curling, and premature senescence. The insect excretes honeydew, a sticky substance that promotes the growth of sooty mold. This layer of mold impairs photosynthesis, further weakens the plant, and significantly reduces the marketability and yield of the fruit or foliage.

Management strategies require an integrated approach (IPM) that combines cultural, biological, and chemical controls. Strict phytosanitary protocols for nursery stock are essential to prevent infestation. In cases of high pest pressure, systemic insecticides are recommended, alongside the release of natural enemies such as parasitic wasps or predators to naturally suppress the Dialeurolobus population.
