Description
Dialeurolonga elongata is a species of whitefly belonging to the family Aleyrodidae, order Hemiptera. This insect is recognized as a significant pest, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, where it impacts the health of various ornamental and fruit-bearing plants through persistent feeding.
The host range of Dialeurolonga elongata primarily includes citrus trees and other broad-leaved evergreen plants. Due to its adaptability, it can become a persistent problem in greenhouses and nurseries, where controlled environments often facilitate rapid population growth and continuous reproduction cycles throughout the year.
The biology of this pest involves several developmental stages: egg, four larval instars (often called nymphs), and the adult stage.
