Systematic position. This insect belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aleyrodidae. Dialeuropora heptapora is a recognized sucking pest that predominantly affects various plant species in tropical and subtropical climates, presenting a constant risk to commercial horticulture.

Host plants. The pest is characterized by its wide host range. It is particularly damaging to citrus crops, mango, avocado, and several other fruit-bearing trees. It can also infest various ornamental plants, making it a significant challenge for both agricultural and residential landscapes.

Biology and life cycle. The development cycle consists of the egg, four nymphal instars, and the adult stage. Eggs are typically laid on the underside of leaves. First-instar larvae, often called "crawlers," are the only mobile nymphal stage that searches for suitable feeding sites on the host plant before settling down to feed and develop through subsequent stationary instars.

Nature of damage and harmfulness. By feeding on phloem sap, the whitefly causes plant stress, chlorosis, and leaf abscission. A major secondary impact is the excretion of honeydew, which serves as a substrate for sooty mold fungi. This fungal growth blocks photosynthesis and significantly reduces the marketability and overall vigor of the host plant.

Control measures. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is essential for managing this pest:

• Deploying yellow sticky traps to detect and monitor population levels.
• Applying systemic or contact insecticides during the most susceptible stages of the pest cycle.
• Promoting biological control through the conservation and release of parasitoid wasps.
• Implementing cultural practices such as canopy thinning to reduce humidity and hinder pest colonization.
