The mulberry pyralid (Diaphania pyloalis) is a destructive lepidopteran pest belonging to the family Crambidae. Originally native to East Asia, it has spread to various regions, becoming a significant threat to mulberry cultivation, which is essential for the sericulture industry.
The host range of this pest is primarily restricted to plants of the genus Morus (mulberry). The larvae feed voraciously on the leaves, causing severe defoliation. This feeding pattern drastically reduces the photosynthetic capacity of the trees, leading to stunted growth and poor fruit yields if left uncontrolled.
The life cycle of Diaphania pyloalis consists of four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult moth.
