The primary hosts of this insect are corn (maize) and sugarcane. The larvae are borers that tunnel into the stems of these plants to feed on the internal pith. This internal feeding pattern disrupts the plant's vascular system, hindering the transport of water and essential nutrients throughout the crop.

Regarding its biological cycle, the pest undergoes complete metamorphosis. Female moths typically deposit their eggs in clusters on the leaves.
