Systematic position: The reddish stalk borer (Diatraea rufescens) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Crambidae. It is a specialized lepidopteran pest, closely related to the well-known sugarcane borer, and is characterized by its larval stage's habit of boring into the stalks of host plants.
