The Diploptera dytiscoides, commonly known as the Pacific beetle cockroach, is a species of insect belonging to the order Blattodea and the family Blaberidae. This species is world-renowned among entomologists for being one of the few cockroach species that gives birth to live young rather than laying egg cases, providing nutrition to its nymphs during development.
Native to tropical regions in Asia and the Pacific islands, this insect typically inhabits decaying organic matter. However, in controlled environments like commercial greenhouses, botanical gardens, or nurseries, it can transition into a pest status by feeding on sensitive plant tissues, young roots, and seedlings, impacting the quality of horticultural crops.
The biological cycle is marked by rapid adaptation to warm and humid microclimates. Since the nymphs are born live and are cared for by the female, they have a higher survival rate than egg-laying species. This reproductive strategy allows the population to establish quickly in greenhouses, where environmental conditions remain stable throughout the year.

By consuming the epidermis of roots and leaves, they weaken the host plant, making it susceptible to pathogens.
