This pest primarily targets soft fruits, including grapes, strawberries, raspberries, and stone fruits like cherries. It is attracted to mature, ripening, or damaged fruit where the skin has already been compromised or softened, making it easier for the female to deposit her eggs into the flesh.

The female lays eggs under the skin of the fruit, and the larvae develop rapidly within the fruit tissue. The entire lifecycle can be completed in approximately two weeks, allowing for multiple generations during a single growing season.
