Edessa bifida

Edessa bifida is a species of stink bug belonging to the family Pentatomidae and the order Hemiptera. This insect is primarily known as an agricultural pest in South American regions. Morphologically, it is recognized by its distinct shape and coloration, which allow it to blend into the canopy of its host plants while feeding on vital nutrients.

The host range of Edessa bifida is extensive, encompassing various vegetables, particularly members of the Solanaceae family, and certain legumes. They are opportunistic feeders that migrate from wild host vegetation to cultivated crops during the growing season. This migratory behavior often leads to sudden outbreaks that can jeopardize agricultural productivity in localized areas.

The biology of this species follows a hemimetabolous development process. Adult females lay clusters of eggs on the underside of foliage.
