Host plants: As a polyphagous insect, this bug feeds on a diverse range of host plants. It primarily affects orchard trees including apples, pears, peaches, persimmons, and citrus. Additionally, it causes damage to field crops such as soybeans, cotton, and corn, as well as various ornamental trees, making it a versatile and persistent threat.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle progresses through the egg stage, five nymphal instars, and the adult stage. Overwintering occurs in the adult phase within protected environments like tree bark, debris, or human-made structures. Upon the arrival of warmer spring temperatures, the bugs emerge, feed, and deposit eggs in clusters on the undersides of host leaves.

Damage and economic impact: The bugs use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract sap from fruits, stems, and leaves. This feeding process involves injecting enzymes that cause necrotic spots, stunted fruit development, and significant malformation. Beyond direct physical damage, the feeding sites often serve as entry points for secondary fungal pathogens, leading to fruit rot and reduced marketability.
