Biologically, these insects are solitary bees. Their evolutionary success is tied to the collection of specific fragrant compounds from flowers, which males use to attract mates. The life cycle involves female bees constructing nest cells using a variety of materials, including tree resins, fibers, and occasionally fecal matter. The larvae develop within these cells, consuming a diet of pollen and nectar. The nesting habits, if established within greenhouse structures, can lead to localized infestations that are difficult to eradicate.

Integrated pest management strategies are crucial for control. Effective measures include:
