Description

The pearl shield bug (Eysarcoris perlatus) is a member of the order Hemiptera and the family Pentatomidae. As a significant agricultural pest, this insect is known to cause economic losses in various cereal crops across its distribution range, particularly in the temperate zones.

Crops most affected by this species include wheat, barley, and rye. The insects utilize their piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on the developing grain, which can be devastating for crop quality if left unmanaged during the critical stages of maturation.

The life cycle of Eysarcoris perlatus involves incomplete metamorphosis. Adult bugs overwinter in protected areas such as leaf litter, hedgerows, or soil debris. When temperatures rise in spring, they emerge, mate, and deposit eggs, usually on the underside of leaves of host plants.
