Known for its adaptation to cold northern environments, this ant has successfully integrated into various agricultural ecosystems, often acting as a persistent pest by influencing other insect populations.
The primary agricultural impact of these ants is indirect. They exhibit a strong symbiotic relationship with sap-sucking insects, particularly aphids and scale insects. By aggressively protecting these pests from natural predators and parasites, they allow aphid colonies to thrive, leading to increased pressure on fruit trees, ornamental plants, and vegetable crops.
