The Golden-spotted case-bearer moth (Goniodoma auroguttella) belongs to the order Lepidoptera, specifically the family Coleophoridae. This species is recognized for its unique larval behavior, as the larvae construct portable cases made from plant tissue, which provide essential protection during their development phases while they feed on host plants.

This moth primarily targets plants within the Amaranthaceae family, particularly those of the genus Atriplex (saltbush or orache). While it is not typically categorized as a major threat to commercial crops, it plays a specific ecological role and can become a nuisance in seed production fields where the integrity of these plants is critical for research or commercial use.
