The Jamaican field cricket (Gryllus assimilis) is a member of the order Orthoptera and the family Gryllidae. It is recognized as a significant agricultural pest in tropical and subtropical regions. It acts as a polyphagous feeder, damaging a wide range of host plants. Economically important crops affected by this cricket include tomatoes, peppers, corn, legumes, and various seedlings. The pest is particularly devastating to fields during the germination stage, often destroying young crops before they can establish.
