Systematic position: The genus Gyrinus belongs to the order Coleoptera, within the family Gyrinidae. These insects are easily recognized by their unique habit of swimming in circles on the water's surface. They possess a specialized anatomy, including paddle-like legs, adapted for high-speed locomotion in aquatic environments.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis consisting of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Adult beetles have divided compound eyes, enabling them to see simultaneously above and below the water line. The larvae are voracious predators living on the bottom, utilizing specialized gills to extract oxygen from the water.
