Systematic position: Halyomorpha annulicornis belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Pentatomidae. As a member of the stink bug group, it is recognized as a significant agricultural pest capable of causing serious economic losses to various plantations, similar to other related invasive species.

Host crops: This pest is a polyphagous insect with a wide host range. It primarily attacks orchard crops such as apples, pears, peaches, and hazelnuts. Additionally, it poses a severe threat to vegetable crops, including tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and legumes, by feeding on fruits, stems, and leaves during the active growing season.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle consists of egg, five nymphal instars, and adult stages. Adults typically overwinter in sheltered locations, such as under tree bark, in leaf litter, or in man-made structures. Upon the arrival of warmer weather, they emerge to mate and lay eggs in clusters on the underside of foliage. In favorable climates, the pest can complete multiple generations within a single season.

Damage and harmfulness: Feeding is performed via piercing-sucking mouthparts. As the insect pierces the plant tissue, it injects digestive enzymes that cause localized tissue death, leading to surface depressions, distorted fruit shape, and internal necrosis. These feeding punctures often serve as entry points for secondary pathogens like fungi and bacteria, leading to rot and rendering the produce unmarketable.
