Hedylepta musicola is a species of moth belonging to the family Crambidae. Often referred to as a banana leaf roller, this insect is a known agricultural pest that primarily targets plants within the Musaceae family, with a significant economic impact on banana plantations in tropical regions.

The host range is largely confined to Musa species. The pest is particularly problematic in commercial plantations where the environmental conditions favor a continuous life cycle, allowing multiple generations to overlap and maintain a high population density throughout the year.

The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis pattern. Adult moths lay eggs on the leaves, and the resulting larvae initiate damage. A defining behavioral trait of this species is the construction of leaf rolls; the larvae secure the edges of the banana leaves with silk threads, creating a protective enclosure where they live and consume leaf tissue from within.

The economic impact is primarily due to the destruction of photosynthetic tissue. Severe infestations lead to a reduction in leaf surface area, which stresses the plant, restricts nutrient translocation to the fruit bunches, and significantly lowers the yield and quality of the banana harvest. Heavy defoliation can even weaken the plants, making them more susceptible to diseases.
