Description
The Hirschmanniella behningi is a species of plant-parasitic nematode belonging to the order Tylenchida and the family Pratylenchidae. As an endoparasite, this nematode thrives by dwelling inside the root tissues of host plants, which allows it to evade many external environmental stressors and complicates direct chemical control measures.
This nematode primarily affects aquatic and semi-aquatic vegetation, though it poses a significant threat to agricultural crops grown in waterlogged or flooded conditions. Common hosts include rice crops and various wetland plants, where the high moisture content of the soil facilitates the migration of the larvae between roots.
