Systematic position: The Iberian snail (Iberus alonensis) is classified within the Phylum Mollusca, Class Gastropoda, and Family Helicidae. It is a terrestrial gastropod that has established itself as a significant agricultural pest, particularly in the Mediterranean regions, where it frequently interacts with diverse plant species.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of this mollusk is heavily dependent on moisture and humidity levels. Breeding usually occurs after rainfall, with eggs deposited in clusters within the soil or beneath dense vegetation. The offspring reach maturity through several developmental stages. During dry and hot summers, these snails employ estivation to survive, retreating into sheltered, humid microhabitats until conditions improve.

Affected crops: As a polyphagous species, the Iberian snail feeds on a wide range of agricultural and horticultural crops. Major targets include leafy vegetables, seedlings of various field crops, strawberries, and low-growing ornamental plants. In orchards and vineyards, they can cause notable damage by feeding on young foliage and low-hanging fruit.
