The Lamprodila vivata, commonly known as a type of buprestid or jewel beetle, is a significant wood-boring pest belonging to the Buprestidae family. These insects are notorious for their cryptic life cycle, which often leads to late detection of infestation, making them challenging to manage in both forestry and orchard settings.
This species primarily targets various deciduous trees, with a preference for certain fruit-bearing species. The presence of the beetle is often linked to the stress level of the host tree, but its larvae are capable of compromising the structural and physiological integrity of otherwise healthy wood, leading to long-term decline.
The biological cycle of Lamprodila vivata involves the female laying eggs within crevices of the tree bark. Upon hatching, the larvae bore into the cambium and phloem layers.
