Lecanoideus mirabilis is an insect pest belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Aleyrodidae. It is recognized as a significant threat to tropical and subtropical crops. Due to its specific biological characteristics and invasive potential, this species is strictly monitored and often classified as a quarantine pest in many agricultural regions.

This pest affects a wide range of host plants, predominantly those in the Arecaceae (palm) and Musaceae (banana) families, as well as various fruit crops. Its ability to adapt to diverse microclimatic conditions makes it a persistent challenge for farmers, particularly in commercial production sites and greenhouses.

The life cycle of Lecanoideus mirabilis includes the egg, four nymphal stages, and the adult stage. Adults are mobile and capable of spreading the infestation, while older nymphs enter a puparial stage during which they remain fixed to the leaf surface, feeding continuously on plant sap. Optimal development occurs in warm, humid environments.

Damage caused by the pest is twofold. Primarily, the insects extract vital plant nutrients, leading to chlorosis, stunted growth, and leaf fall. Additionally, they secrete honeydew, which promotes the growth of sooty mold. This fungal layer blocks sunlight, effectively inhibiting photosynthesis and severely reducing the overall health and yield of the plant.

Integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for Lecanoideus mirabilis include:
