Description
The Hevea lace bug (Leptopharsa heveae) is a significant agricultural pest belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Tingidae. This insect is specifically adapted to feed on the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), making it a major concern for the global natural rubber industry, particularly in South American plantations.
The insect thrives by feeding on the leaves of the rubber tree. Both nymphs and adults utilize their piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract plant fluids from the underside of leaves. This feeding behavior disrupts the internal physiological balance of the tree and significantly inhibits the plant's ability to undergo effective photosynthesis.
