These ants frequently establish colonies in the cavities of trees, rotting wood, or deep crevices in bark. Unlike ground-dwelling species, their preference for woody habitats makes them a notable presence in orchards and forested areas, where they interact closely with tree physiology.

Their primary agricultural impact is indirect but significant: they serve as aggressive protectors of honeydew-producing insects such as aphids, scale insects, and mealybugs. By warding off predators like ladybugs and lacewings, Liometopum populations allow these pests to proliferate, leading to severe damage on fruit trees, including stunted growth and the spread of sooty mold.
