Description
Systematic position. The Prometheus hummingbird moth (Macroglossum prometheus) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Sphingidae. These moths are widely recognized for their hovering flight patterns while feeding on nectar, which makes them ecologically similar to small birds.
Host plants. The primary hosts for the larvae of this species are plants within the Rubiaceae family. While they are often viewed as interesting pollinators in the adult stage, the larval stage can cause significant damage to ornamental and specific wild plants when populations reach high densities.
