Affected crops: Maruca pod borer has a wide range of host plants. The primary targets include grain legumes such as cowpea, soybean, common bean, pigeon pea, chickpea, and lentil. In the absence of primary hosts, the pest can also survive on wild species within the Fabaceae family.

Biology and lifecycle: The life cycle consists of four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult moth. Females typically lay eggs singly or in small clusters on buds, flowers, or young pods. The larvae pass through five instars, feeding extensively on the reproductive parts of the plant.
