Massilieurodes

Massilieurodes is a genus of insects belonging to the Aleyrodidae family, commonly known as whiteflies. These small, sap-sucking pests are recognized for their ability to thrive on various woody plants and indoor ornamental species, often causing significant stress to the host organism.

The host range of this pest primarily includes broad-leaved evergreens and citrus species. By clustering on the abaxial side of leaves, these insects remain protected from environmental factors and often evade early detection by growers, leading to widespread infestations if not managed correctly.

The biological cycle follows a typical whitefly pattern, progressing through egg, larval (nymphal) instars, and adult stages. The nymphal stages are sedentary and feed continuously on plant phloem, while the winged adults facilitate the spread of the infestation to neighboring plants.

The damage caused by Massilieurodes is twofold: direct physiological damage and indirect phytosanitary issues. Direct feeding leads to yellowing (chlorosis) and stunted growth. Furthermore, the excretion of honeydew promotes the growth of sooty mold, which physically blocks sunlight, severely hindering the plant's ability to perform photosynthesis.

Control measures require an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy. Essential steps include
