Matsucoccus massonianae is a serious pest belonging to the family Margarodidae, order Hemiptera. This insect specifically targets pine species, causing significant ecological and economic damage in coniferous forests across its distribution range.

The primary host for this pest is Pinus massoniana (Masson pine). The insect is highly adapted to feeding on the bark and twigs of its host tree, utilizing its mouthparts to extract phloem sap, which deprives the tree of essential nutrients and disrupts its normal physiological processes.

The biological cycle of the Masson pine scale is complex, involving various nymphal stages and an adult phase. The development is heavily influenced by temperature and humidity levels, which dictate the timing of nymphal emergence and reproduction. These pests often overwinter in crevices of the pine bark to survive harsh conditions.
