Description

The Tonkin beetle (Megabruchidius tonkineus) is a significant pest belonging to the family Bruchidae within the order Coleoptera. This species is primarily recognized for its destructive impact on the seeds of various leguminous plants, causing substantial losses in both ecological and agricultural settings by reducing seed viability.

The primary host for this beetle is the honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos). As the beetle spreads to new geographical areas, it poses a growing risk to ornamental plantings and local legumes.
