Metaleurodicus minimus is a minute insect belonging to the Aleyrodidae family, order Hemiptera. This species is a specialized pest found primarily in tropical and subtropical regions, where it poses a significant threat to various agricultural and ornamental crops by colonizing the underside of leaves.

The pest primarily affects a range of woody and shrubby plants, including fruit-bearing varieties. Severe infestations are often observed in greenhouse environments and open-field systems where warm and humid conditions prevail. Due to its high reproductive potential, the population can expand rapidly across a field if left unmonitored.

The life cycle of Metaleurodicus minimus comprises several stages: egg, nymph (three instars), puparium, and adult. Females typically deposit eggs on the abaxial leaf surface, often in dense clusters. The development of larvae is highly dependent on ambient temperature, allowing for multiple overlapping generations per year, which complicates effective population management.

Damage occurs primarily through the extraction of plant sap by both nymphs and adults. As they feed, they excrete honeydew, which serves as a substrate for sooty mold fungi that inhibit photosynthesis. This physiological stress leads to stunted plant growth, chlorosis, leaf deformation, and, in cases of extreme infestation, premature defoliation.

Control measures necessitate an integrated approach:

• Deployment of yellow sticky traps for monitoring adult presence.
