Minutaleyrodes is a genus of tiny insects belonging to the whitefly family (Aleyrodidae) within the order Hemiptera. These pests are characterized by their extremely small body size, which often makes them difficult to detect during the initial stages of infestation. In entomological classification, they are distinguished primarily by the specific structures of their puparia found on the undersides of host leaves.

This pest affects a wide variety of plants, including citrus, malvaceous species, and various ornamental greenhouse crops. It thrives particularly well in controlled environments such as greenhouses and nurseries, where stable temperatures and high humidity provide ideal conditions for population growth throughout the entire year.

The life cycle of Minutaleyrodes follows the typical developmental stages of whiteflies, consisting of eggs, several nymphal instars, and adults. Upon hatching, the first-instar nymphs, known as "crawlers," actively seek a suitable site on the leaf tissue to feed. Once they insert their stylets into the plant vascular system, they become sedentary for the remainder of their developmental process.

Damage caused by this pest is twofold: direct and indirect. Direct damage occurs through the extraction of plant sap, which stunts growth and leads to chlorosis and leaf drop. Indirect damage results from the excretion of honeydew, which covers the leaf surface and promotes the growth of sooty mold, further impeding photosynthesis and reducing the overall quality of the crop.

Effective management and control of Minutaleyrodes require an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy including the following practices:

• Deployment of yellow sticky traps to detect and monitor adult activity levels.
• Biological control using parasitoid wasps or predators that specialize in Aleyrodidae.
• Application of systemic insecticides or horticultural oils at critical stages of the pest's life cycle.
• Cultural practices such as pruning infested foliage and maintaining proper plant spacing to improve airflow.
