These insects are social organisms characterized by a complex caste system that includes workers, soldiers, and reproductive individuals, allowing them to maintain highly organized and resilient colonies.

Host plants. This species is a generalist feeder known for its wide host range. It infests various forest trees and commercially important crops such as coffee, cocoa, citrus, and a variety of fruit trees. In suburban and agricultural areas, it also poses a significant threat to wooden structures, fences, and utility poles.

Biology and life cycle. A colony of Nasutitermes corniger can consist of thousands of individuals. The life cycle involves a metamorphosis from eggs to nymphs, eventually differentiating into specific castes. They are known for building elaborate nests, either arboreal or subterranean, and constructing protective mud tubes to travel across exposed surfaces while avoiding direct sunlight and predators.

Nature of damage and economic impact. These termites feed on cellulose, systematically excavating the internal woody parts of trees and root systems. The structural integrity of the plant is compromised, often leading to lodging, breakage, or complete death of the plant. In agricultural plantations, infestations can reduce productivity and lead to long-term economic losses.

Protection measures. Effective management requires a combination of strategies due to the cryptic nature of these pests:
