Nauphoeta is a genus of insects belonging to the order Blattodea and the family Blaberidae. The most prominent species, Nauphoeta cinerea, often known as the speckled cockroach, can act as an invasive pest in agricultural environments, particularly within heated greenhouse facilities where microclimatic conditions favor their survival.

This pest poses a significant threat to a wide range of horticultural crops grown in protected environments. Affected plants often include vegetable seedlings, ornamental flowers, young berry bushes, and various greenhouse-grown tropical plants. The insect's high mobility and ability to hide in structural crevices make them difficult to eradicate once established.

The biology of Nauphoeta is characterized by high fecundity and rapid reproduction under warm, humid conditions. As an ovoviviparous species, the female retains the ootheca within her body, which offers protection to developing offspring. Both the nymph and adult stages are voracious, feeding on organic matter and living plant tissues, including soft stems and leaves.

Damage symptoms typically manifest as irregular feeding holes in foliage, girdled stems, and destroyed terminal buds, leading to stunted plant growth or total loss of marketability. In commercial greenhouse production, Nauphoeta can cause economic damage by feeding on roots and the basal parts of young plants, significantly increasing the mortality rate of delicate greenhouse stock.
