Systematic position: The striped ground cricket (Nemobius fasciatus) belongs to the order Orthoptera and the family Gryllidae. It is a common insect known for inhabiting fields, meadows, and pastures, often becoming a nuisance in agricultural settings where it interacts with various crop species.

Affected crops: This pest is a generalist feeder with a broad host range. It primarily targets cereal crops, including wheat, corn, and millet, as well as forage crops like alfalfa and clover. Vegetable crops located near infested grassy areas are also susceptible to damage during periods of high population density.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. The species typically overwinters in the egg stage, with eggs deposited in soil or organic debris. Nymphs emerge in the spring and undergo several molts before reaching the adult stage by mid-summer, coinciding with the rapid growth of many field crops.

Damage and economic impact: Adults and nymphs feed on foliage, creating irregular holes and consuming leaf tissue. During the maturation of cereal crops, they may feed on seeds within the ear or on corn silks and kernels. Such damage can lead to direct yield loss and increased vulnerability to secondary infections such as molds and various plant pathogens.
