Neomaskellia is a genus of insects belonging to the whitefly family (Aleyrodidae) within the order Hemiptera. These small sap-sucking pests are primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions, where they act as significant plant parasites. Due to their minute size and ability to reside on the undersides of leaves, they often go unnoticed until significant population damage occurs.
The primary hosts of Neomaskellia include various grass species and cereal crops. Economic damage is most frequently reported in sugarcane, sorghum, and millet plantations. The pest utilizes these plants for both feeding and reproduction, often utilizing alternate wild grass hosts to survive between cropping seasons.

This substance accumulates on leaf surfaces, promoting the growth of sooty mold, which physically blocks sunlight from reaching the leaves, thereby severely hindering the plant's photosynthetic capacity.
