This pest primarily attacks various herbaceous plants, including certain vegetable crops and wild host species that act as reservoirs. Both nymphs and adults feed by piercing plant cells and sucking out the sap. This constant drainage of nutrients significantly impairs the plant's ability to perform photosynthesis, ultimately leading to stunted growth and reduced vigor.

The presence of dark, sticky fecal spots on the leaves, combined with the presence of cast skins, often gives the plant an unkempt and sickly appearance.

Effective management requires a combination of cultural and chemical strategies. Cultural practices such as removing infested plant debris and managing weed populations near crops are crucial for breaking the lifecycle. If the pest population exceeds the economic threshold, targeted application of systemic insecticides is recommended to penetrate the leaves where these insects reside.
