The primary host plant is rice, where the insect completes its life cycle. The larvae are known for their semi-aquatic behavior, constructing unique cases from leaf fragments to protect themselves while feeding and moving across the water surface or clinging to the rice plants.
The biology of the pest is closely linked to humidity and water management. Females lay eggs on the underside of leaves near the water level.
