Odontotermes takensis is a termite species belonging to the family Termitidae and order Blattodea. Known for its complex social organization, this species plays a crucial role in the decomposition of organic matter in tropical ecosystems. However, in agricultural settings, it becomes a major pest, causing significant economic losses by attacking living plants when natural forage becomes scarce.

This termite species poses a threat to a diverse range of crops, including fruit trees, sugar cane, maize, and cassava. Young seedlings are particularly susceptible as their root systems are easily breached by the termites' foraging activities. Once a colony establishes itself, it can systematically undermine the health of an entire plantation by compromising the structural integrity of the crop's base.
