Biology and life cycle: This invasive species is characterized by polygyny, meaning a single colony can house multiple queens. They are highly adaptable and do not build large, visible mounds, choosing instead to nest in soil, tree cavities, rotten wood, or even discarded debris. Their reproduction is opportunistic, allowing them to expand colonies rapidly in favorable environments.

Host crops and damage: These ants are primarily detrimental to agriculture due to their mutualistic relationship with sap-sucking pests such as aphids, mealybugs, and scale insects. The ants protect these pests from predators and parasites while actively transporting them to healthy plant tissues. This interaction leads to severe plant stress, stunted growth, and the development of sooty mold caused by honeydew excretions.
