Affected crops: These ants primarily target large-seeded crops, including corn, sorghum, and wheat. By raiding seed furrows shortly after planting, they deplete the seeding rate. This behavior is particularly detrimental during dry spells when the germination process is slower, giving the ants more time to remove or damage the seeds before the plant can sprout.

Biology and life cycle: The colony structure of Pheidole bicarinata is characterized by extreme polymorphism, consisting of minor workers and major soldiers with disproportionately large heads.
