Reed platygaster (lat. Platygaster phragmitidis) belongs to the order Hymenoptera and the family Platygastridae. While many members of this family are recognized as parasitoids, this specific species is associated with phytophagous habits, primarily affecting reed and related grass species.
The primary host plant for this insect is the common reed (Phragmites australis). However, in agricultural regions, it poses a risk to nearby cereal crops and wild grasses. The pest exploits these plants during its larval stage, significantly impacting the structural integrity of the stems.
