Psammotermes fuscofemoralis is a destructive termite species belonging to the order Blattodea and the family Rhinotermitidae. Known for its resilience in arid and semi-arid environments, this pest presents a significant challenge to both sustainable agriculture and forestry by consuming plant biomass and cellulose-based structures.

This termite species attacks a wide variety of crops. It is particularly noted for causing damage to cotton, cereal crops, various legumes, and woody plants such as date palms. By infiltrating the root systems and the base of the stems, the termites disrupt the transport of water and nutrients, which eventually leads to the wilting and total collapse of the plant.

The biology of Psammotermes fuscofemoralis is characterized by a sophisticated social structure organized into colonies. These colonies include distinct castes such as workers, soldiers, and reproductives, which work in coordination to sustain the population. Because these termites live deep underground, they are shielded from most environmental stressors and standard surface treatments.
