Biology and life cycle The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis including egg, larval stages (instars), pupa, and adult. Both larvae and adults are strictly predatory. The larvae, often called water tigers, are notorious for their aggressive feeding behavior, using hollow sickle-shaped mandibles to inject enzymes into their prey.
