Rhoecocoris

Rhoecocoris is a genus of insects belonging to the shield bug family (Scutelleridae) within the order Hemiptera. These insects are characterized by a highly developed scutellum that covers the majority of their abdomen and wings, providing a robust, armored appearance common to many shield-back bugs.

This pest is known to affect various agricultural crops, particularly leguminous plants and certain tree species. By utilizing their piercing-sucking mouthparts, these insects extract nutrients from the phloem, which can severely stress the host plant and hinder its development during critical growth stages.

The life cycle of Rhoecocoris consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. Nymphs typically undergo five molts, with each stage showing an increased size and developmental maturity. Adults generally overwinter in sheltered locations, such as forest litter or dry debris, emerging in spring to initiate the new generation.

Damage caused by this pest is primarily manifested through tissue necrosis, leaf yellowing, and stunted growth. In severe infestations, the direct extraction of plant sap and the transmission of potential pathogens during the feeding process can lead to significant yield losses and lower fruit quality.

Effective management requires an integrated approach that focuses on prevention and monitoring.
